Description:
My grandmother filled her garden with bulb flowers. Every time I visited, I had to walk around the house and look at all the flowers. The snowdrops were the first to emerge from the earth, followed by the daffodils and the long rows of tulips.
The peony stood proudly with its beautiful, densely layered petals. The tiny yellow flowers of the goldenrod brightened the garden with their cheerful presence. In a cool, shady corner among the stones, the fern guarded its millions of tiny spores beneath its leaves.
And then there were the roses… Among their intoxicating scents, the orange rose was my favorite. I always had to smell the newly blooming roses. Back then, I saw it as a duty, just another part of our walk through the garden.
Now, that no one is there to show me their flowers anymore, I miss this ritual terribly. Whenever I come across a rose bush, I still lean closer and smell the blossoms. For a brief moment, it feels as if that old garden returns — and with it, my grandmother.
