Description:

The ensemble of objects seeks to personify the landscapes of Helemba, where each object forms its identity in dialogue with the space it inhabits. The spaces—whether islands, bridges, deltas, or confluences—carry the potential for identity in themselves, and the objects only become fully “idols” when embedded into the fabric of place. The choice of materials—frames of Ailanthus altissima and wild cherry, linen, natural glue, biodegradable plant pigments (Ailanthus, goldenrod, elderberry), and the aluminum salts of sulfuric and carbonic acids—is not merely a medium, but an active participant in shaping local identity. The encounter between pigments and fabric produces an imprint that simultaneously bears the physical presence of vegetation and the passage of time, reflecting the subtle interplay between nature and humanity. The question posed by the objects is not purely formal: it asks whether natural spaces—such as islands, bridges, and deltas—can be articulated as identity within a single object. What meanings are evoked when these idols appear within a space? What hidden identifications and desires do they awaken within us?The settling, erosion, and delicate transformation of pigments record the passage of time and nature’s trace upon the objects, making them more than mere objects—they become resonant, living memories of space and time.

By burying the objects, their meaning has shifted: they exist now as latent, hidden entities, their identity activated by memory, imagination, and absence. The settling, erosion, and delicate transformation of pigments continue, invisibly recording the traces of nature and time, turning the ensemble into a resonant, living memory of space, time, and concealment.
