Description:
Over the past year, I discovered the gesture of embroidery. I realized that it is not just a craft technique, but a way of thinking. To weave time, attention, and presence into the fabric of the space, for me, a symbolic act. In the summer, my work at InSitu, Falcastrum, was one stage of this realization. There, I coated idol trees with dye made from elderberry. Instead of the roots, I planted the cut trunk into the ground. I reversed the order of nature and the direction of growth. Thus, what had been in the ground reached toward the sky. This gesture – the inversion, the exchange – was for me embroidery: a new stitch in the fabric of the world. Error calculi was born from this realization, now on paper. Four A4 sheets, four standard fields evoke the spaces of calculation and rationality. I filled them with pencil-drawn grids, weaving-like structures. Yet I could never follow the raster perfectly. Mistakes are not enemies of order, but its essence. For me, error calculi is about weaving order and error together, about the productivity inherent in mistakes.
Materials used: found paper (thanks to Béla Ferdics and Richard Aradsky), watercolors made from plant pigments: Rosa 'Royal Queen'®, Mentha piperita, Sambucus nigra, charcoal, pencil
The materials used, guided by cultural-historical and symbolic considerations, become one layer of a certain interpretative plane of the work.
