János Minyó
Festőművész
I graduated in 2016 from Budapest Metropolitan University with a degree in Visual Representation. During my years there, it was one of my teachers, Márton Barabás, who encouraged me to begin painting and who reassured me that I had the right affinity for it. I have always greatly admired Ábel Szabó and Anton Molnár, whose work inspired me to continue on this path and to challenge myself with increasingly larger canvases. At the end of 2016, I won second place at the “Pop Up” exhibition of the Godot Gallery, which gave me the opportunity to participate in the artists’ residency in Mezőszemere. Since 2017, I have been collaborating with the Lendnine Gallery in Graz, located next to the House of Arts, and our partnership continues to this day. In 2018, I had the chance to showcase my paintings to the public in a group exhibition at the Achtzig Gallery in Berlin. My work is characterised by a strongly painterly approach. Anyone who strives to create truly painterly brushwork must constantly balance on a fine line: finding the moment when a piece already “works,” even in its half-finished state. While painting, I often take a series of progress photos, and I frequently find that some of the early stages appeal to me even more than later ones. I hope to achieve similar successes throughout my career as those of the artists I so deeply admire.
