Description:

The pair of works created at the Csongrád International Art Colony is connected through a typographic element: my mother’s handwriting, featuring a quote from a 1992 letter "Anyways, I'm doing fine. Everything is beautiful, and everything is great!" Beneath its surface cheerfulness, emotional layers that were hidden to me as a child emerge, placing the past in a new context. The woodcut corresponding to the first clause (A/3, on 50×70 cm paper) is titled “Anyways, I'm doing fine.” and depicts a hand holding a cigarette and alcohol. The bold linework and strong composition highlight gestures of self-soothing, which, in retrospect, embody emotional tension for the viewer. Together, the two works create a temporal and emotional dialogue, where the typographic element forms a bridge between past and present, and the gestures in the images give new meaning to the words of the letter.

Anyways, I'm doing fine.
